Opera 11.10 Barracuda incoming
With nothing more than the most tantalizing of teasers, the Opera team has just announced that an early build of Opera 11.10, codenamed Barracuda, will emerge "in the near future."As far as Barracuda's feature set is concerned, all we know is that "another popular Opera feature will be taken to the next level."
If any of Download Squad's seven Opera users are out there: shall we take some bets on which feature the Opera team is hinting at? Our money's on hardware acceleration, though that doesn't really fit with Opera's hint...

Whatever that is, Opera remains one of the most under-rater pieces of software. It's evolution has been extreme and is responsible for introducing some great technologies so far, implemented from the competition only far later. It does deserve more recognition.

@incense_77 - I agree. I use Opera at home and work. Opera had sync of bookmarks a long time before Firefox.
I love the pull-down view of the open tabs (excellent on my high-res home monitor).
I love the tab grouping implementation and the fast start up beats anything else out at the moment.
I can't wait to see what Opera have in store next!

@KingDeb8r What's this "pull-down view of the open tabs" you speak of? I can't figure out what you're talking about but it's something I'd be interested in.

I place my bet for Opera link update to enable password syncing. And hey, almost 50% of DS Opera users have posted a comment :)

Indeed opera is severely underrated. Opera just doesn't get the exposure it deserves.

well, I've installed recently Opera 11.01 and I'm actually enjoying it. I tried it in the past but it always lacked something. Now all big websites work and there are lots of options... not like the boring Chrome ;-)
Hope they can improve performance, hw acceleration could be a great plus!

The public follows the bloggers. All the hype is about Chrome so its gaining on FF. Not happy with FF dropping the status bar, I installed Opera just to see if I could live with it. I can live with it very nicely. should have switched long ago. Barracuda, here I come.

Opera rules!!!
Does that make me the seventh user?
I'm sure there are more. I proselytize as many people as I can.

Posting with Opera - that makes eight, a new DS record ;)
Personally hope for Tab pinning that works!

My bets are on the mail client...
And there are alot more of us than you think...specially since the almost perfect RSS client integrated with opera is perfect for regular blog readers

@Guardian I had no doubt that there were more than 7 of you :)
The mail client would be cool!

i hope they add microsoft exchange sync for the mail client. its the only thing missing in the best browser on the market, which is opera (imo)

I don't count since I am Norwegian.
Sebastian AnthonyFeb 15th 2011 3:10PM
@Martin H. Hamstad All Norwegians are giving Opera on a USB thumb drive when they're born, right?

@Sebastian Anthony
Yupp, together with the skis we are born with :)
Actually I don't use it much, since it lacks AdBlock which I am totally dependent on.

I like Opera, but the lack of extensibility is why I use Chrome. That, and the lack of multiple processes like Chrome.
As for the mail client, I really hate that feature because it reminds me too much of Netscape. I also don't like using desktop mail clients in general.
The other reason I used to avoid Opera was its lack of being able to use the backspace key to go back. Then I was forced to use Ubuntu for a while and got used to and embraced the Alt+Left and Alt+Right navigation.

@ronsonlikethelighter
I only partly agree with you. The just added extension system is very chrome-like in the instant installing of extensions without restart, for example. However, the only reason I haven't fully switched over to opera is that I am waiting for some of my favorite firefox extensions to be ported or imitated (perhaps waiting in vain as most devs would see the opera installed base as small).

@ronsonlikethelighter
Lack of extensibility?
Opera 11 support extensions.
And Opera can use the backspace key to go back just fine.

@Martin H. Hamstad
It has adblock since october last year.
