Windows Phone 7 data leak problem traced to Yahoo! Mail app
Microsoft has admitted to Paul Thurrott that the "third party app" which has been responsible for mysterious data leakage on Windows Phone 7 is, in fact, Yahoo! Mail. The admission came only hours after Rafael Rivera had already proved this to be the case. Rivera noted that Yahoo! was transmitting about 25 times more data than it needed to. Yikes.Microsoft originally reported that this issue affected only a small number of WP7 users. We're inclined to agree with LiveSide that the number must be really small in the grand scheme of things, considering Windows Mobile devices outsold Windows Phone 7 devices last quarter.

Ya know as a potential customer, I was following the WP7 developments really closely. I wasn't really sure what my next smartphone would be and I love my zune. But, Microsoft made such a half-hearted attempted to even bother with the phone market I can't believe that what they put out is the final product. There are no updates as of yet as promised (which they said would happen very frequently) and I've heard nothing but guff from early adopters. Why would anyone with half a brain buy this thing?
As for me, I'm going with Android as soon as the right plan comes along.

@Jonny This seems like a Yahoo screwup, not a Microsoft one, both my Gmail and Hotmail are linked to my phone and I didnt have any issues with them.
As for nothing but guff from early adopters. I've been using my HD7 for a few months now and I have no real problems with it. The overall experience is great. The OS is fast and responsive, IE mobile is surprisingly good (though I would be nice to have a WP7 version of Opera Mobile), Zune is great and there are some great app and games available.
Yes there are some shortcomings (copy and paste is actually a non-issue for me so far) but the thing Microsoft needs to do (more than providing updates IMO) is give developers more access (allow apps like last.fm to run in the back, allow apps to access the camera, etc...)

Even for the Android, the Yahoo Mail app is bad. I stopped using that and use the default mail app to get the email from Yahoo. The Yahoo app very often just slows down and then locks up the system.

I once sent a large attachment email, about 25mb, and yahoo conveniently sent it like 50 times. Overall something, but now probably yahoo, used up 10gb of the 2gb limit. I was pissed.
I'd like my 80 dollars back yahoo.

It's good to be up on the latest developments of any platform, but I must say, as a new owner of a Samsung Focus (and I also upgraded my wife's phone to a LG Quantum), this phone is the coolest device I've owned in a long time. I have a Yahoo email address but rarely use it since I primarily use a Windows Live account and a Gmail account as a secondary. My long standing position about Yahoo Mail is that it somewhat blows.
Don't let the data leak issues deter you from getting a WP7. It's a version 1 device but at least it's not a fragmented OS like Android.
And by the way, I have more than half a brain.
