What are the first applications you install on a new computer?

While apps like Ninite make it easier than ever to download and install a slew of tools all at once, the question still remains: What are your "choice apps"? With a new computer or fresh install in front of you, what are the first few applications you set up on each and every system you use? What apps are so essential to your computing experience that you can't see yourself doing without them? Let us know in the comments!

The First 3 Applications that I install are in order...
Sprint SmartView - Because I use Sprint Mobile Broadband (I still Have the unlimited plan so no 5G cap!!!)
MSE - Because it is lightweight, FREE, and works amazingly well
Opera Browser - Because I can't STAND Internet Exploder

I just reinstalled my OS two days ago. The very first thing I did was Chrome. I assumed Ninite would give me the stable build and I wanted the Dev build. Same for Mozilla.
Followed by Ninite: Opera, Skype, Pidgin, itunes (necessary evil), Songbird, VLC, Picasa, Sumatra PDF (trying first time), MS Essentials, Flash, Silverlight, Java, .net. Dropbox, Filezilla
And then it was time for other favorites like Zune, Dexpot, Teamviewer, Directx, Chrome plugins, Rainmeter with Omnimo, Soluto and probably a few others I can't remember.
If I had to choose just one? Chrome Chrome Chrome!

Not that many actually. I made the mistake of installing too many extensions on Firefox years ago and (although it was my fault) it soured my likeness for FF since it became unusably slow and I switched to IE (I know, I know) till Chrome came out.
Here are the ones I have now:
"Android2Cloud" and "Chrome to Phone" for moving links back and forth from my phone to the desktop
Google Mail Checker
Lastpass
Keyboard Navigation (gives you letters next to links on a page and you can choose a link without using a mouse)
Linkclump (work related only, opens multiple Links at a time...right click, drag box, and it opens all links in the box on seperate tabs)

I actually install very little, as virtually every application I use is of the 'portable/no-install' variety, located on a separate partition. The only applications I install are:
MS Office (I am compelled to use this otherwise it would be portable Open Office)
MBAM
Hitman Pro
Macrium Reflect
VirtualBox (The disk images are on a different partition)
I also have a couple of images, one vanilla and one with the above installed. Using this method allows me to be completely up an running in about 10 minutes.

@Dougal You're compelled to use Office or obligated?

At SpeedGeek (www.speedgeekny.com) we have a fixed list to what goes on a new computer for a client (windows 7 installation):
- Microsoft Security Essentials
- TeamViewer Quicksupport (with shortcut icon on desktop)
- Google Chrome (with Web of Trust extension)
- Java latest release
- Flash latest release
- Picasa
- iTunes
- Malwarbytes Anti-Malware
- Office 2007 (if they bought it. Not a big fan of 2010)
- Foxit PDF reader (with no toolbars or links)
- Skype
- Power Archiver 2010 (the best and prettiest compressing utility out there)
- VLC Player
- Glary Utilities
- uTorrent (just in case)
The important thing is, NONE of these programs are actually running in the background on boot (except microsoft security essentials).
As for myself, it's a similar list but includes:
- DIGSBY (best IM in the world)
- DROPBOX (dropbox is god)
- ObjectDock (from stardock)
- Adobe CS master
- Firefox 4 (with Xmarks and Lastpass)

Depends.
Windows: Firefox, VLC, Trillian, iTunes, uTorrent, Photoshop, and Thunderbird.
OS X: Firefox, Movist, Growl, Adium, Transmission, Photoshop.
Those are the essentials. The ones I won't even begin to use my system unless they are installed and configured appropriately.
