Netflix removes 'add to DVD queue' from streaming devices
Netflix will remove the "add to DVD queue" button from its interface on streaming devices in order to free up resources and "improve the overall streaming experience," the company said in a blog post. The Netflix website, which is still the most popular way users manage their DVD queues, is unaffected by this change. The blog post is vague about what's actually being removed, and which devices will experience the change. It's clear that the"add to queue" button is going away, but it's not clear whether that means the queue manager will be removed entirely, and whether search results will be limited to the streaming library only. As far as affected devices, consoles and set-top boxes seem like a no-brainer, but it's not clear whether Netflix mobile apps are also being revamped.

I think that's kind of stupid. I like being able to simply click "add to DVD queue" on my console. That means I don't have to go online and find the movie I wanted to watch that was DVD only and add it to my queue. Maybe a smarter idea would be to remove the button from shows that stream instantly and keep it there for shows that are DVD only.

I noticed this wasn't available for the iphone app about a week ago. If a colleague tells me about a movie and I want to add it to my DVD queue, I am not able to access the Netflix website on my work network/wifi, so the iPhone app was a convenient and faster way to search for the movie and add it to my queue over 3G. The regular site is pretty clunky on the small screen. Oh well.

Now maybe they'll fix other stuff, like when they keep sending me DVD's when I have a streaming only plan? And they then demand I return the DVD right away or they'll charge me for it?
