Wine 1.3.11 released, improves JavaScript performance and localization, fixes MS Hearts bug
The development version of Wine 1.3 has just been released, bringing with it a ton of bug fixes, improved JavaScript performance, and -- at long last -- GNU gettext support, making localization and translation a whole lot easier. For many Linux users, though, Wine 1.3.11 will be known as the build that finally fixed MS Hearts, which has been broken under Wine since 2006. Of course, there is a Hearts clone, but it just isn't the same. The improved JavaScript performance means that JavaScript-heavy pages should run a bit better in Internet Explorer -- though why a Linux user would use Internet Explorer is truly a puzzler.
Binary packages for Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and other major distros should be available; but if not, you can always build from source.

A lot of us Linux users manage systems that are only accessible through IE. Until those vendors update their software, we are forced to use IE under wine.

@Wes Oooh -- I had considered the legacy software issue, but hadn't considered that a Linux admin would use Wine, rather than having a Windows box or something :) Thanks for the info.

@Sebastian Anthony I believe Steam also uses the Trident (IE) rendering engine, and I know for certain that some of Steam's store pages can bring many systems to a crawl (thanks Intel Atom...). Definitely a welcome update!

@Recky That's also a very fair point. I remember reading about Steam using Trident, way back when it first launched. I guess I figured it had been upgraded by now, or something :)
