Android 2.3 Gingerbread running on iPhone 3G (video)
Nick Pack, an iDroid developer, has just posted a video of an iPhone 3G running Android 2.3 Gingerbread (video embedded after the break). It's pretty sluggish, and the video quality is poor, but the proof of concept is clear: it's certainly Android 2.3 on an iPhone. The same developer went on to add that it's still very early days for the port, and that the "iPhone 4 port is under way and progressing steadily." Of course, once it runs on the iPhone 4, the Android 2.3 on the iPad is just the tiniest of baby steps away.
While a public release of Android 2.3 for iPhone is probably a few weeks away, a stable build of Android 2.2 for iPhone is available from the iDroid site; installation is pretty easy, and it runs quite well too.

i think i pee'd a little. the ultimate droid phone could soon be the iphone4, assuming it runs many many many times faster than this demo.

@Jeff Hesser Since iOS 4.0 runs many many many times faster on iPhone 4 than on iPhone 3G I think it's safe to assume it will be the ultimate droid phone.

@Jeff Hesser Not really, the Android ports to iPhone hardware are more of a nifty show of what can be done rather than something practical for regular use. The big problem basically comes down to the iPhone's lack of buttons. Current iDroid builds have different functions mapped all over the place to seemingly random buttons to make it somewhat usable, but even as a geek it's not any more than a toy in my opinion. The search button could be left out, but that still leaves menu and back without any place to go.
