While the main download link hasn't updated yet at
getfirefox.com/beta, the latest beta release of Firefox 4 is ready for download from Mozilla's FTP servers. With Beta 7 already being
feature complete, Beta 8 is all about squashing bugs and shining up the browser in anticipation of its release. It was a little slow in the coming, but frankly we're just glad to see FF4b8 surface before time ran out on 2010.
Check out the full build notes here, or click one of the following links to download:
Other languages and builds are available on the
Mozilla FTP server. Full release notes can be found on the
Mozilla wiki.

Yeah, it's not autoupdating yet, and probably won't until somebody throws the switch.

Says the file is corrupt. Going back to IE6
DeanoDec 21st 2010 11:40AM
@Chris Serino I prefer IE5 myself
DonDec 21st 2010 4:38PM
@Chris Serino -- IE6? Good luck with that.

It looks like opera...lol
Going back to Chrome now, firefox is dead to me.
DeanoDec 21st 2010 11:34AM
How do you see the url when you hover over a link now that the status bar is gone?
Sebastian AnthonyDec 21st 2010 11:43AM
@Deano The link is up in the address bar. Kinda weird; takes some getting used to.
AlahmnatDec 21st 2010 11:45AM
@Deano It's displayed on the right-hand side of the address bar now. Still not sure how I feel about that. It makes sense given how it's been implemented visually, but it goes against 10+ years of muscle memory (if eye tracking counts as muscle memory).
Sebastian AnthonyDec 21st 2010 11:42AM
@Deano IE5? NUTSCRAPE 4 is where it's at.
DeanoDec 21st 2010 11:59AM
@Sebastian Anthony Thanks! I never noticed that. I think I would prefer it back where it was given how ingrained that has become in my browsing. Perhaps an extension will solve that for me.

@Sebastian Anthony
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=10249499#p10249499 to change the color of link text on mouseover
Sebastian AnthonyDec 21st 2010 12:24PM
@Deano There is an extension for it -- but I don't know the name :) Good luck!

@Sebastian Anthony
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/235283/
It's name is "Status 4 Evah" and it brings back everything concerns the old status-bar and even the progress line on address bar that appeared for a while in betas.

Eventually, Firefox will get eaten up by Chrome and its once a day updates (between Canary, Beta & stable versions).
Sebastian AnthonyDec 26th 2010 5:38AM
@EuroSceptiC That's the one! Thanks.
Sebastian AnthonyDec 26th 2010 5:38AM
@vasa1 Hehe, cool :) Thanks for the tip!

Fx 4 beta 8 doesn't seem much slower than Chrome 10 dev. This is purely a subjective feeling.
AdBlock Plus and WOT work without having to resort to compatibility measures. Personas and most themes are not available.
And I can't set the color of the active tab background.
If they manage to move the tabs up further between the Fx button on the left and the three Windows buttons on the right, at least for maximised windows, we'll get one more row freed up.
