Rumor squashed: Google fails to buy Groupon -- for $6 billion!
I'm sad to announce that Google has failed to acquire Groupon, thus vanquishing all chances of ever seeing a website called Goopon. The shocking thing is, not only has Google failed to snap up Groupon, but the original, rumored figure -- a paltry $2.5 billion -- was way off the mark. Google's final offer was closer to $6 billion! Considering Groupon was valued at $1.35 billion only seven months ago, its board of directors is either stupid, or incredibly savvy.
Groupon's quick growth and Google's frenzied interest are strong indicators that local business is quickly becoming the next big thing. More power to the non-chain stores I say!

Don't know why Google would pay $6 for Groupon much less $6-billion. I am not impressed with the merchandise or the prices.

didn't Google also grossly overpay when they bought YouTube in 2006?

No the got a Great teal for YouTube in hindsight...
Apparently banner ads paid more than ppl thought... who knew?!
Well obviously Google.
TBH the ballsy move was the fact that as soon as they bought it they became a huge target to sue... which actually happened.
Got to say $6B looks mad though...
