jsGB is a JavaScript-based Game Boy emulator
jsGB is an ongoing project that aims to emulate the original Game Boy and turn it into a JavaScript-based Web app. This goes to show how truly extraordinary the advances in computing have been over the past two decades. According to Imran Nazar, the developer of jsGB, the combination of new JavaScript engines (such as Firefox's JaegerMonkey and Chrome's V8) and the HTML5 Canvas element have made jsGB not only possible in theory, but a rather straightforward process in practice as well.
Although this is perhaps not the first use you'd think of for fast JavaScript, the Game Boy emulator will become reality as a consequence of the browser wars of today -- ignited by Google with the launch of Chrome and its focus on speed.
jsGB isn't available yet, as it's still a work in progress, but if you want to keep up with how it's going be sure to check the developer's website for regular updates.
