Diaspora alpha invite giveaway

The Download Squad, being the antisocial types that we are, don't have any friends to invite to Diaspora -- so we're inviting you instead! Erez, who reviewed Disapora earlier, thinks it stands a good chance against Facebook, especially as Facebook dissent grows.

We have 10 invites to give away. Win an invite, and you'll become part of the private alpha process, and later the public beta.

To enter the draw, head on over to our Facebook page and leave a comment. Only comments in the 'Diaspora giveaway' discussion thread will be accepted. Full terms and conditions are after the break.

Open to legal US residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia and Canada (excluding Quebec) who are 18 and older.

The comment must be left by Friday, November 26 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.

I'm still not sure I get how this is going to "replace" Facebook...it's like someone coming up with an open-source Google and everyone talking about how it's a potential Google-killer. If the EXISTING COMPETITORS can't knock FB off the pedestal (despite millions of dollars worth of development being pumped into them), why would Diaspora?

I'll take a look at it though.
