I tried to update today and it was a no-go... so after SEVERAL hours of stopping and restarting I hit Google. Looks like I'm not the only one. http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-os/13338-4-2-update-killed-my-ipad-need-help.html
I think the gist of it is, Windows 7 Pro users with iTunes 10.1 are all experiencing the same problems. At least they all are the same as what I've experienced.
