zButterfly torrent client focuses on current movie releases
A new Windows BitTorrent client called zButterfly has a twist that sets it apart from the competition: a menu of current movie releases, including the hottest flicks that are still running in theaters. zButterfly has an easy-to-use interface for searching and browsing the releases, and operates entirely on torrentless downloading via magnet links. Even the most clueless downloader can use zButterfly to get access to recent Hollywood fare.
This is certainly going to draw angry reactions (and probably lawsuits) from the movie industry, but ZButterfly's creators think they have a solid defense. It's the old, "We're just a search engine. We don't actually host any files" defense. That'll be interesting, especially when there aren't even .torrent files hosted by zButterfly.

Because it is. They might use that "we only link to torrents" defense, but if this COICA bill ever passes, that would be an entirely different story.

the MPAA has to love this. this will either be huge or completely fail in a couple months.

They love it! It's a one stop shop for detecting uploaders.

There is a safe harbor provision in the DMCA for being 'just a search engine' but their obvious FOCUS on illegal downloading I think will sink them. This is how The Pirate Bay is still around, but they don't FOCUS on illegal material, they are content agnostic.

OK I checked the sources available on sourceforge.
They modified Azureus to point the adresses of the Vuze content network to point to zbutterfly.com
Besides that there is not so much addition to the software. OH WAIT ? What is this “MiscUtils” source they added ? Let’s take a look at the functions it provide :
public static String getSerialNumber(String drive)
public static String getMotherboardSN()
public static String getMAC()
WTF ??!! Why does a bittorrent software need my Hard drive serial number, my motherboard serial number or my MAC adress ???? Vuze worked very well without these informations…
Seriously, don’t touch this crap.
Some websites provide a similar service without requiring any kind of identification or subscription and work with any bittorrent client on any platform :
