Microsoft's new slogan gets official

In Ray Ozzie's recent farewell note to his teammates in Redmond, he stressed the importance of looking to the future. "[...]The first step for each of us is to imagine fearlessly; to dream," he said, adding "It's the dawn of a new day – the sun having now arisen on a world of continuous services and connected devices."
Microsoft's new slogan certainly runs parallel to Ozzie's focus on the future: Be what's next. It's got that Nike "Just Do It" ring to it, though perhaps with a bit more dreaminess.

As spotted by Long Zheng, Microsoft has now filed a trademark to protect the new tagline. It's all about agility, anticipation, innovation, and the willingness to take risks in the hope of achieving something great.

If they'd tried this a couple of years ago they'd have been a laughing stock; I think now they might just get away with it...

"Where do you want to go today?" is still my favourite by some margin :)

It should read, "Be What Was!"

they left off part of it…it should read: "Be What's Next….A Failure"
Xbox1 didn't do so well on the market (PS2 killed it)
Xbox360 is down to like 25% failure rate (versus the 33% it was at
Kin Phone….
Zune (iPod killed it)
Windows ME
Windows Vista
and now…Windows Phone 7…(no one I know whats it, they already either have a Android device or iPhone or want an Android or iPhone device…)

Part of being the next next big thing means you will have some failures. It's inevitable. Most of what you mention, though, is hardly a failure. So, what hard evidence-- not anecdotal or "I hate M$"-centric-- do you offer that Windows Phone 7 is a failure?
The only reason I'm not rushing out to get a WP7 device is because I don't want to be tied to a data plan. That's the same reason I don't have an Android or iPhone. Well, that and my iPod Video has been a piece of crap from the day I got it.

I like that better than the "World Without Walls" concept, but then, "In a world without walls, who needs Windows?" Still, Microsoft isn't going to be my "next" anytime soon.

Maybe it would be more accurate to have "Be What's Been" as the slogan, as I don't think they've ever released a truly new or revolutionary product. Everything that makes them money they've simply taken from another source and refined or molded to match their structure.
I think as long as crazy Steve Balmer is running the ship, Microsoft is only headed in one direction as far as consumer products goes - down.

If it wasn't copyrighted 'Think Different' would be ironic.
At least for Zune and Windows Phone 7

I know it's not cool to like Microsoft but fuck it. I like a lot of their products. Look how unhip I am!

Like Windows 7 over OS X. iPhone over any other phone. iPad is more functional than my XP tablet. Don't really like any slogan or ad from MS except those I am a PC ads but this is even worse than anything ever in the history of all slogans.
