Type While Walking helps iPhone addicts avoid running into things

Type While Walking is a new app for anyone who's ever thought, "My iPhone has a camera on the back, so there's no reason I should have to stop looking at it just to do a silly thing like watching where I walk." With this 99-cent app, you can compose email messages, SMS messages and other text documents on top of the image from your iPhone's camera, theoretically avoiding any need to look up from your phone.

The typing part of Type While Walking works well, with white text providing enough contrast to make it readable in most situations. The problem comes when it's time to move your text from the app to its appointed destination, be it email, SMS, Twitter or somewhere else. You can have Type While Walking open a new email, SMS or Facebook status and auto-paste the selected text, but that forces you out of Type While Walking and into a world of pedestrian dangers where you can't see where you're going.

Of course, you've probably already guessed an even more serious flaw in this app concept: people don't often operate their iPhones upright, with camera pointed dead ahead. Your arms will get awfully tired from holding up your phone, unless you intend to use Type While Walking to avoid hazards on the ground just in front of you.
