Pair of Pidgin updates improves stability, squashes bugs
Adium isn't the only instant messaging app powered by libpurple which has seen a healthy spate of updates recently. Pidgin -- the cross-platform multi-network massaging app -- has been updated twice in the past fortnight, squashing numerous bugs and tweaking its interface.
Among the lengthy changelogs for Pidgin 2.7.4 and 2.7.5 you'll find support from Chrome and Chromium on non-Windows systems, better handling of Google Apps domains, several AIM and ICQ tweaks, and enhancements to voice and video chat.

Does it still take two hours to get it to look decent?
I guess I'm just spoiled by Adium's easy to modify modularity and huge supportive community. Pidgin just never stood up. I only used it for a long time because Trillian Astra was so terrible. Trillian 5 stole me back for my PC.
I just hope Pidgin becomes a major competitor in the PC-IM dept. It's always felt like a long way to go, and I think these updates are a step in the right direction.

I was thinking the same thing. I moved from Digsby to Pidgin as a trial and found that it took about 2 hours to get everything working the way I wanted.
Which seems stupid considering all I wanted was MSN, Facebook chat, a decent set of alert notifications and a UI that didn't look horrible.
In the end I gave up and went back to Digsby. It isn't perfect, but I have far better things to do with my life than faff around getting an IM client to work nicely.
