Firefox 4 to ship at the beginning of 2011
Mike Beltzner, the Director of Firefox, has just confirmed that the Firefox 4 release candidates will appear at the beginning of 2011. The Firefox 4 Beta wiki has also been updated to reflect the goals, targets and deliverables of the last few months of the beta testing process. The next release, Beta 7, which is due out in the next week or two, is the most important of them all. Mozilla has now ordered a 'code freeze' for Firefox, meaning no new features can be added -- Beta 7 will be, for all intents and purposes, Firefox 4. After its release it becomes a matter of getting the almost-finished browser into the hands of add-on developers, ironing out bugs, and ultimately delivering a stable release candidate.
In other news, Firefox 3.6.12 was released only a few minutes ago. It fixed a critical security vulnerability that was exploited earlier today on the Nobel Peace Prize website.

I do hope that plugins I use will be updated by then because FFb2 and up broke the majority of them.
I still cannot use the following in FFb6:
- Tab Mix Plus
- Speed Dial
- GreaseMonkey
- Firebug
- Session Manager (even if Firefox crashes, the session isn't saved 100% with the built-in session saver)
I love the fact that FF4 is just... stable especially for a beta. It's fast as well. I like the fact that when it uses a couple hundred megabytes of RAM, it doesn't freeze for 2 to 4 seconds like FF3.6.11 or pause momentarily every time I type a letter in a text box or text field like in FF3.6.11 or use up to 1.6 GB of RAM after having 20 tabs open.

@octoberasian:
For Tab Mix Plus get the latest dev build:

For Speed Dial download the latest version off the author's site:
http://speeddial.uworks.net/
Both should then work in FF4B6. Don't know about the other two though.

A RC Release Candidate will be ready at the beginning of 2011 (wiki). The FINAL release date will be close behind (couple of months probably).

It depends on the state of the RC :)
The current beta is relatively bug-free. I wouldn't be surprised if we only see 1 or 2 RCs... but of course I am ready to eat my words!

I was hoping it would be sometime in the next month (which I got from Wikipedia) so I don't have to keep switching between 4.0 beta and 3.6 stable, but I guess if it means it gives them more time to make it awesome, then so be it :)

2011?
Darn it Mozilla, Seb has been teasing me with his FF4 for ages! Make it already, I can't install betas! And you Opera guys, I want my Opera 11 out!!! Don't let Seb torture me more! :P

Sorry man!
Just remember... I'm just the messenger boy... don't shoot me!
Why can't you install a beta? :)

Wow they were really off in their projections. I am used to Mozilla over promising on deadlines, but this is a bit of a blow because I been stubbornly holding on to Firefox telling myself 4.0 was in the horizon despite the increasingly attractive alternatives. How long do we have to suffer with the increasingly archaic 3.6?

Yeah, it looks like they're having issues with the current beta -- but that's fair enough, considering this is THE big beta. After this, it's just bug-stomping.

Wasn't the original release date for Fx 4 in July?
