Microsoft Messenger for Mac 8 is out of Beta, available to download as a standalone app
Microsoft Messenger for Mac, Microsoft's instant messaging application for Apple-made computers has hit version 8, finished its beta testing, and is now ready to download and use. Microsoft Messenger for Mac 8 will be included in the upcoming Office for Mac 2011 suite as well.Messenger for Mac has all the features you'd expect -- it lets you instant message, audio and video call your friends who also have a Windows Live ID. Naturally, a Windows Live ID is required to use the application, but you already have one of those if your email address ends in live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com.
This release is targeted at people who use Office applications on the Mac. Thus Microsoft chose to emphasize how Messenger can help with productivity, by allowing real-time collaboration between Mac users and their Messenger contacts. Because of this, certain features that are part of Windows Live Messenger 2011, such as games or social views, will not be available for the Mac version.
Microsoft Messenger for Mac 8 is free and can be downloaded from here.

Hey guys, if you haven't noticed messenger is long dead (R.I.P.) , it died cause it couldn't deliver the quality voice communications that Skype did . Most people used to use messenger as a texting platform but when skype came along with both quality voice and texting ability it just blasted messenger out of the water! So very few people really care about messenger anymore although many have it installed due to Microsoft's push of windows live through the windows update mechanism.
R.I.P Messenger and soon to be R.I.P Microsoft viva la Google .
The King is dead (Messenger ) long live the king SKYPE!!!!

And what stats do you have to back this up?
daromeOct 26th 2010 8:45AM
back it up?? these are know facts , just google the number of skype user vs the number of msn users and you will see the difference. Do you deny that the number of skype users vastly out numbers the number of MSN users and of the superiority of the skype platform??

2010 stats, right from the horse's mouth:
windows live messenger—330m active users
http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_live/b/windowslive/archive/2010/02/09/windows-live-messenger-a-short-history.aspx
skype—124m active users

did you even do research, or is this all your personal opinion? yes, i am denying that the number of skype users vastly outnumbers the number of users on the WLM platform. i never said anything about user interface and "superiority" of one platform over another.

I stand corrected!
Good for you, the advantage of electronic media, one can look something up and have an answer in seconds.
Cheers!
