Nope, sorry: Hulu blocks Google TV

Well that didn't take long. Poor little Google TV -- Hulu doesn't want to be friends. It has again blocked access from your Chrome app even after changing its browser user agent. But who are we kidding? It's not exactly a surprise given that access to Hulu through other set-top boxes requires a Hulu Plus subscription, and we're sure Hulu wants to keep it that way.
Google TV is, of course, based on Android, so perhaps some further hacking can be done, but for now, simply changing settings isn't enough.

Hey Gibbs, wake up and smell those ashes. What you feel right now is what your brothers and sisters in Ye Olde World feel everyday - the bitter scent of Hulu, Netflix and just about every other Simpsons/Family Guy-site there is blocking consumers wanting a slice of US entertainment. A piece of advice - don't ever move to the EU (and while I'm at it, here's another piece of advice - don't expect all of your readers to reside in the US).

Indeed. Guilty as charged. One decidedly English Brit, at your service.

i allredy have a computer with wireless keyboard and mouse hooked to my hdtv as well as the cable companies set-top-box. what i would like to do is run google tv as an app on my computer, run my cable box through the computr and then to tv. does anyone know if a downloadable version of google tv will be available vs. the hardware configurations that seems to be their main lilne of thinking?

htpc's ftw. this is why you should have a full os like ubuntu, windows or mac, then you can run xbmc/plex, boxee, mythtv and firefox to access hulu or any other streaming site.
