Twitter Tuesday - Microsoft shows off Twitter on Windows Phone 7

Twitter for WP7 uses the side-swiping "pivot" interface that will be common to many Windows Phone apps. That means you can flick sideways to switch from your stream to replies, DMs, nearby tweets and more. Microsoft seems particularly proud that they've pulled in Top Tweets and made them available even when you're not signed into Twitter. That sounds right in line with Twitter's new "we're not a social network, we're a news source" philosophy.
Visit Microsoft's Channel 9 for the latest demo of Twitter on WP7 (you'll need the Silverlight plug-in), and check out a quick promo for the app after the jump.
Twitter's New 'Snowflake' Tweet Numbering System
Twitter's tweet numbering system is about to change, to a new system codenamed "Snowflake. "Tweets are now going to be numbered based on time stamps, which means they'll each have unique IDs, and the numbers will get a lot bigger. As a consequence, you won't be able to tell the exact order in which every single tweet on the service was posted. Snowflake doesn't mean a lot to the average user -- and practically everything works the same for developers, too -- but this'll be the end of counting down to milestones like the millionth or billionth tweet.
Twitter Tops Facebook in Clickthrough Rate
Marketers, take note. According to a new study from Fast Company, Twitter is kicking Facebook's butt in terms of clickthrough rates. Twitter is pulling down an average of 19 clickthroughs, while Facebook is hovering just under 3. That's good news, since Twitter has bet its business on selling clicks to advertisers through services like Promoted Tweets and Promoted Accounts. However, Facebook is still dominating in the sharing arena, making up 78% of social sharing, compared to 5% for Twitter.
Twitter Working on "Events" Feature
Speaking of Twitter versus Facebook, events are one major Facebook feature that Twitter hasn't yet matched. That doesn't mean Twitter's not working on it, though. According to ReadWriteWeb, Twitter Events are just around the corner.. wouldn't be invitation or group-based: they would pull in tweets that matched a list of event-related keywords , basically creating an automatic livetweet stream for your events.
Tumbl.in Is Like a StumbleUpon for Twitter Links
Tumbl.in is a new service that lets you find random, interesting links using Twitter, sort of like a Twitter-based StumbleUpon. It browses your Twitter favorites, tweet stream, and lists for random links, letting you click forward to tumble on to the next link. Tumbl.in is customizable, too. You choose which sources it uses, so you could make a Twitter list with your favorite sources of links, or just start adding good links to your favorites, and explore those with Tumbl.in. It's a fun idea for a way to kill some time on Twitter.

...WMV's? The page you linked to was a Silverlight video, complete with embedding code you could use to put it in this post too :P
Anyway, onto the program ^.^ It looks kinda nice, but they haven't taken full advantage of Silverlight's animation engine, which is a fundamental part of the Metro look, or background processing either =P Still, for a first try with a company who have presumably never developed with Silverlight before... it's looking good!
