Greenpois0n iOS 4.1 jailbreak released, but only for Windows
Yesterday brought us limeral1n, and today we have greenpois0n from the Chronic Dev Team! You can now jailbreak your iPhone 4 and 3GS, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generations), and the iPad. A future release will let you jailbreak your 2nd generation iPod touch and Apple TV!This is a delayed release that's wrapped in controversy: Geohot, the creator of limeral1n, has apparently been a very naughty boy. Because of Geohot's antics -- he released his exploit too soon -- greenpois0n was forced to use limeral1n's iOS 4.1 USB boot ROM jailbreak exploit rather than their ace-in-the-hole SHAtter. Both jailbreak kits are Windows-only, with Linux and Mac support hopefully "coming soon."
Mac users can use Boot Camp, or another virtualization tool like VMware or VirtualBox, to install Windows -- and thus jailbreak their iOS 4.1 device.
[thanks to Gk for the tip!]

I heard from a reputable source that this might be an 'infected' release. I do not know for sure, only relaying what was told to me by someone on the 'inside'. I am like everyone else and cannot wait for this to be release, but I'm just saying to make sure you scan the download in any way you can before applying the hack. I know I will be and hopefully it comes back clean :-/

Unfortunately the long awaited jailbreak is not working as numerous users are complaining on the chronic dev team (CDT) blog and not getting any answers. So far, no one has been able jailbreak their phones and the CDT are not replying to anyone right now. It seems very unfortunate as alot of us have been holding out for Greenpois0n instead of using Limera1n. Tisk, tisk, tisk....

I saw some comments on that blog post -- some were saying it worked, but there were issues?
It probably works... it's just fiddly.

you are talking about stuff you don't understand. "told by someone from the 'inside'", who do you think you are?

His comment originally had a link to some anti-infection suite, which I removed because I don't like blatant advertising trolls.
I guess his comment isn't actually worth paying attention to... but I can't be sure.

CDT released an RC3 of greenpois0n later today as opposed to their initially launched RC2 that didn't work at all. Unfortunately for people like myself whom "jumped the gun" with RC2, now have to restore their devices with a 500mb download through iTunes before using RC3. Being from South Africa myself where bandwidth is not cheap, I would rather have paid for a working jailbreak launch initially.
