Google tests further Bingification, adds site previews to search results

As The Next Web reports, Google is playing with the idea of displaying website previews when a user hovers over a search result. Bing, of course, limits its previews to text snippets -- Google is opting for a screenshot-style image instead. Consider yourself flattered (again), Bing!
Site previews are only available to a limited number of users at the moment, so well keep you updated if and when Google decides to roll out the feature to everyone.

Love how competition works both ways..Bing keeping Google honest and Android keeping Windows Mobile honest.

How does Google adding a feature Bing doesn't have = Google is copying Bing? This is the same question I asked when Google got mocked for letting users choose their own background image.
Does Bing do that? I don't think so.
I think Bing is doing a great job and everything. But the allegations of "copying" are lazy shorthand for a competition dynamic that's a bit more complex.

How about "inspired"? When people would accuse Microsoft of copying, they never seemed to require that the feature implemented be *exactly* the same, but just the same idea. Bing had background images, Bing had side navigation, Bing had infinite image results, Bing had result previews on hover.

I think Bing's snippet method is superior. That screenshot will tell me nothing but what the site I'm going to looks like, which is not perfectly useful information. I already know which site it is from the link... and plus, when searching you care about specific results, not the site in general. Bing's snippet shows you your query in context so you can tell if your question is being answered.

This wasn't a Bing thing first, it was an Ask thing before them actually ... most of what Bing releases is Ask ... and then Google follows after letting Bing test it.

this feature has been available as Firefox extentions for YEARS, if anything, Microsoft would be "flattering" the Firefox community.

Cool. This will get interesting.
There is a firefox add-on called WikiSeer that even summarizes the web page.
