VLC arrives on the iPad, iPhone version coming up!
VLC lovers, rejoice! Well, VLC lovers who own an iPad, anyway. Applidium has announced that VLC for iPad has been approved and is now available for download from the App Store.
In case you were wondering about the open source implications of the release, good news on that front: Applidium states that the code will be released before the end of the day. The blog also states that they've begun work on a version for the iPhone and iPod touch as well, so you'll soon be able to enjoy VLC viewing on your pocket-sized device.
The rest of you who love VLC can still party if you want to -- it's a celebration-worthy app, even if you don't have an iPad to play with!
update: Have a look at Iyaz Akhtar's review over at Mobiputing... overall, VLC on the iPad looks pretty darn good -- DivX and Xvid worked well, though it did struggle with a large M4V (not a complete shocker)

Just a few months back and approving something like an alternate media player to iTunes was an impossibility. Guys, this is Apple scared the hell out of its pants over the new Windows Phone 7 to be.
Why else would Apple ease the rules for others wanting to enter into the turf it wants to maintain for itself.

The iPad plays .M4v natively, so no loss there...looking forward to trying some .avi's I have lying about.
And lol at the "scared of Windows Phone 7" post. If anything, it is Android they are worried about, since, you know, Android actually is shipping.

Well Android was shipping way before Apple relaxed their App Store rules. It is true Android is in this space and is a competitor but the true game changer is not Android because it is old news and doesn't compare to Apple in simplicity. I am not a huge fan of very dumb interfaces but they catch-on faster in the market. What fairs better than Apple here is Windows Phone 7 because it had time to be built with all other UI mistakes in hind sight from WinMo and all other platforms while starting from scratch. It has a very impressive UI and I can't wait to see it in person. This is not only my own sentiment but many many people share it with me. That is what Apple is worried about.

That's ok, many video only can play on my ipad itunes which supported narrow formats, so, I missed some nice videos, lucky, I rely on the Aneesoft ipad video converter fro mac or win, which make me can watch all kinds of video. but the software need to rely on my PC.
If the new VLC comes to my ipad, i think it will be more convenient.
