Yahoo Mail update to bring cleaner look, better performance

It's easy to forget about Yahoo! Mail. Despite having millions of users, it doesn't receive quite the same level of attention as Gmail or Hotmail. However, Yahoo's somewhat-recently released version, which is tailored for the iPad, is pretty darn snazzy -- and it appears as though that type of look is headed to Yahoo! mailboxes everywhere in the near future.
Cnet is reporting that a "Minty" (the project's codename) upgrade is coming and will include not only a cleaner, sexier interface but also greatly improved performance. Yahoo! hopes the changes will help stem the tide of users that are migrating to other services; they have lost 7% of their total base since this time last year. In that same period, Gmail grew 22%, and Hotmail grew a modest 3%.
Yahoo! has already lost the number one spot in India to Gmail. Does anyone want to bet on whether or not they can hold on to the top spot elsewhere around the globe?

Yahoo wants to regain it's market share? Free POP access - something ALL the other major mail services have - would be a better place to start.

I still cant understand how yahoo Mexico offers free POP access and email forward and Yahoo USA does not, which is annoying because I live in Mexico City, but have accounts on both sites, would be great to have them somehow unified, a la hotmail, one single domain instead of having .com and .com.mx accounts.
Its the only webmail service I still have to actually browse to see my mails, enter username and password sucks and I wont pay for something the rest offer at no cost.
BTW hotmail POP access sucks big time, I continually get errors that the site doesnt accept my connection, a problem I dont have with the others. Maybe theyre trying to force me to use their stupid web interface, which I dont care about, I dont have to suffer gmail one, why should I suffer hotmail?

I agree the pop mail has to come to yahoo mail. Aside from that, in the top 20 websites in the U.S., Yahoo mail is in 4th position, followed by Windows Live mail in 7th, with Gmail in 11th position. Gmail does about 1/4 the business yahoo does. But you'd never know, would you? You, meaning anyone reading the Download Squad.
Of course, I'd rather follow the much more relevant figures showing gmail has outstripped yahoo mail in India, but I have to settle for these:

I have using Yahoo Mail Plus for years...and I love it. I am a total tech guy that uses the Chrome Beta on my Core i7 machine. I have tried gmail and don't understand the love affair that people have with it. I have a gmail account that I only use to hold the contacts for my Android phone. I hate the fact that gmail does not have the preview pane. I have always been used to having a preview pane going back to Outlook Express; and I refuse to give it up.
The new look and functionality of Hotmail is quite good now; but really, Hotmail only became usable in the last year or so. So after years of using Yahoo, it would be way too difficult to migrate over to Hotmail for an email experience that is only slightly better than Yahoo.
So I am one of those Yahoo Mail users that is thrilled with the coming improvements!

Must offer POP3 and IMAP support for free to stay alive.
