Valve VP: We're not working on Steam for Linux

In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Valve's VP of Marketing Doug Lombardi has bad news for Linux gamers: "There's no Linux version that we're working on right now."
Sorry to take the Steam out of your locomotives. But hey, look on the bright side -- Lombardi didn't say they weren't going to work on it in the future or that they had never worked on a Linux version. If you like reading into things, his phrasing leaves plenty of room for speculation.

Steam is great for competition, finding games with other people providing you with a more rounded game. It is however very aggravating when it updates daily or you have to shut down your game or steam to get a party going.
If you want to play on two computers behind a router, both with purchased games, forget it! I have port forwarded, DMZed and all that and used client port also. Works one day and next nothing.

never had any problem with Steam behind a router myself. my roomate and I used to play L4D with our coworkers all the time and never had to do any sort of configuring of the router

Oh, well...I guess it means us poor Linux users will have to keep being productive, rather than waste our time with games. :)

I've said it on a few different places, but this means *nothing*. They have, and always will, deny the production of a linux steam client. Until it's officially released (if that is to say they are working on it), it doesn't exist and isn't being produced.
