Jobs confirms iOS update for iPhone 3G users "soon"
Steve Jobs is answering email again, and this time he seems to have confirmed an iOS 4 update that will fix the operating system's slow-as-molasses performance on the iPhone 3G. Jobs didn't explicitly say "iOS 4.1," but it seems highly likely. He also didn't say when users of older iPhones could expect this miraculous update, just "soon." Here's the email exchange, via MacRumors.com:
Jobs responded,I've waited patiently through 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, looking for a fix that will make my phone work again. I've read the forums that advise me to jailbreak my phone or use some other method so I can downgrade back to a version of iPhone 3, however I'm not prepared to use a method that is not supported by Apple.
And now a lot of 3G owners who wish they'd never upgraded to iOS4 are wondering "how soon is soon?" I'd guess it's probably not soon enough to keep most of them from breaking down and buying the iPhone 4.Software update coming soon.

Hey, I just fix mine yesterday and it all work fine now.
I could be so easy for Apple or my provider to send me the procedure. Maybe it would have calm down my rage...

Are 3GS users going to get some performance fixes too? Mine has been running like crap since 4.0.

Jason-
On our dev phones, I set them all up as new phones and just synced. Not that hard since they don't have contacts, pictures, etc. But it seems to have fixed out problems.
It's relatively easy to downgrade 3G iPhone's to 3.1.3, if you have Xcode. It's also possible with iTunes. You just need the Firmware and iRecovery.

It sounds like Apple have been spending too much time marketing, and not enough time testing products before release, much the same as Microsoft did with Vista. Steve Jobs needs to pull his finger out of his ass and start kicking some at Apple HQ.

I had good luck after I wiped my 3G completely clean. Then did a jailbreak. Multitasking handles okay with 2-3 light weigh applications open.

That just looks too odd seeing IOS and not see any mention of Cisco... It also makes me chuckle when Stevie pans other companies for not being original and here he is having to pay a licensing fee for the name of is operating system of his baby.

I was a 3G user with a slow iOS4 update.
I didn't buy the iPhone 4 though. I bought a HTC Desire. Best decision I could have made.

I hope this means they're also working on the ridiculous decrease in battery life for upgraded iPods. Mine has been nearly unusable since switching to iOS4.
