Google finally updates Gmail's search -- and lets you search your Docs too!

Despite the update, searching is still slower than a three-legged tortoise. At least the Google Docs results come in asynchronously -- so if you're just searching your email, you won't see any speed degradation.
To enable the new feature, click the green 'beaker' in the top right of Gmail and scroll down to Apps Search > Enable. Save your changes and enjoy your new 'Search Mail and Docs' button!

I'm not complaining, but is the use of "shit" really necessary in the headline? LOL
Sebastian AnthonyAug 19th 2010 9:34AM
Next time I will use 'macaroni', just for you :P
GhotiAug 19th 2010 10:11AM
I agree with you Dan, for what it's worth. The point could have been made without that word.
DanAug 19th 2010 10:15AM
Oh, I have no problem, I'd just rather reserve it for a story that is THAT monumental. Like, "Holy shit, Google giving away free internet to everyone!" :P
PrestonAug 19th 2010 10:31AM
I agree with Ghoti, it's really not necessary and kind of a turn off for this site.

The headline is awesome. Keep it up like this. ¦)

I still can't search Gmail with a * For e.g., if there is a phone number "212-5642525" I am looking for and I remember the phone number ends with 2525, I cannot simply search for "2525". Gmail will give me zero results.
Wild card search should be simple for Google the search company to implement. It is just sad that they have not done so already!!!
curtisballardsrAug 19th 2010 11:51AM
i agree that the language was unwise, and the search isn't good enough to warrant it.

The use of "shit" was really uncalled for. Made it harder to read news while at work, as the security program has decided to detect this...
Sebastian AnthonyAug 19th 2010 11:53AM
Does it automatically censor your incoming and outgoing emails too? Tough break.
MpmcfarlaneAug 19th 2010 12:51PM
Using 'shit' is just fine, but it shouldn't be used in the heading.
johnwokcAug 19th 2010 1:35PM
Put me down on the list for that verbage being unnecessary...If you can't make your point without those words, maybe you shouldn't be writing.

I absolutely agree with the rest of the children. "Holy shit" is completely unacceptable. "Fucking hell" would have been more appropriate. Get your shit together, Seb.

Ok, whiny bitches. It's a word. The man obviously had a point to make, and was rather likely taken aback at the actual update. It's not like this is a site that children come to read. It's not like DS is going to be the downfall of civilized society.
Was it unnecessary? Absolutely. Did it help him get across how surprised he actually was? Yes it did.
And perhaps, most importantly, did it make me click the link? Yes, yes it did. I'd probably have skipped over it if my attention hadn't been caught. More clicks (properly earned or not) implies more readers, which makes Sebastian's boss like Sebastian more, and also earns Sebastian's bosses more money, further increasing their happiness with Sebastian.
The man knows what he's doing.

It doesn't quite work like that, but thank you for the support nonetheless :P
