Minimalist Facebook extension de-crapifies Facebook's layout
Do you hate the Facebook layout? Are you annoyed by that useless right-side navigation bar? If you're using a browser that supports userscripts (which is basically all of them), you can clean up Facebook with a script called Minimalist Facebook. It works in Firefox with Greasemonkey, in Chrome as an extension, and in Safari with Greasekit.
Minimalist Facebook knocks out Facebook's right column, makes the news feed wider, gets rid of the "chat" section in the left sidebar, and makes the chat list semi-transparent. It's not going to stop stupid apps from showing up in your news feed, but it does make Facebook feel a lot more usable.

Anyone know offhand if this script will work in tandem with the FB Purity userscript? Guess there's only one way to find out.

It seems the answer is no. Bummer.

Is there a way to combine the scripts into one new super-script instead of running them both at the same time? Some of the overlapping features may be getting in the way of each other.

still kind of a newb to Chrome extensions. how do i make this work? i got the source code, now what?

Hit "Install" on the userscripts.org page, or open the downloaded file in Chrome. It should install just like an extension (you'll see the standard installation dialogue at the bottom of the window.)

FFixer can do all of this and more and has been continuously updated since it was first released. It actually got so popular that it got a C&D order from Facebook to stop calling itself Facebook Fixer.

I agree, try FFixer. It's the only one that can block posts by app, those annoying "x is now friends with y" posts, and more -- and is fully and easily configurable. I am using it in Chrome right now.

This reminded me of Facebook Lite, and I was about ready to go check that out again, since it had been awhile, only to find out it's gone! Oh well, at least there's always scripts like this one.

this can be done with a single adblock filter.

no need for any other fluff.

"It's not going to stop stupid apps from showing up in your news feed..."
But clicking on the 'X' for that entry and hiding the stupid app stops it from showing up. Why would I need an extension for something that's already there?

"CRAP" is a totally unnecessary word in a headline! If you can't write without using that word, MAYBE YOU SHOULD NOT BE ON THE INTARNETS!11

Great article, thanks for sharing. Did you know that you can also get layouts for your facebook profile with an app called PageRage? Has anyone heard of this? Its pretty cool!
