Apple's iOS 4.0.2 closes PDF exploit, breaks JailbreakMe

Apple has released a small update, version 4.0.2, of its iPhone operating system. This little update has a big effect on anyone looking to jailbreak an iPhone, though. See, the new version of iOS closes up a PDF exploit that could potential allow malware onto your phone, but that exploit is also the basis for the amazing slide-to-jailbreak app JailbreakMe.

That means you shouldn't update your phone's software past 4.0.1 if you're planning on jailbreaking it, at least until the iPhone Dev Team finds a new exploit. If you weren't ever going to jailbreak in the first place, you should just go ahead and update for the extra security.

A couple of additional notes: iPad OS 3.2.2 is now out, as well, and it also breaks JailbreakMe. Also, this iOS update is not 4.1, the magical update that supposedly runs smoothly on an iPhone 3G and is still in beta right now.
