Netflix app for Android on the way, but it could be a long wait
If you're an Android user seething over the fact that the iPad and the iPhone are getting Netflix streaming before you do, seethe no more! A Netflix employee has confirmed the company is hiring developers to begin work on the Android app, and the company's job listings on Reddit corroborate his information. As Mashable points out, Netflix's new "Android Video Playback Expert" will be someone who has experience with streaming video on "other mobile platforms," which means that the Android app might be adapted from the existing iPad and iPhone apps.
The ads imply that there's nobody in charge of the project yet, so I wouldn't expect the app to be finished any time soon. Nevertheless, Netflix is clearly demonstrating their commitment to supporting Android, so this app is more than just vaporware.

After the iPhone/Windows Phone 7 version comes out I wouldn't be surprised if the other platforms follow shortly after. I think the largest reason that there isn't streaming on phones now is because the Instant Queue Movies aren't converted to a format that can stream.
After they're 3GP or some other format phones can stream developers will reverse engineer it and sell it on the other platforms...

I'm already streaming netflix on my jailbroken iPhone with a simple change in the ipad netflix filename and sshing the app to the iPhone. It works great! Watched a 2 hour movie on my iPhone lastnight.

Can't wait till my little android phone grows up! Guessing by the time the Netflix app comes out, android will have moved to 3.0, and I can get a new phone!

I believe the reason netflix is coming to the android last for one reason: they've already been using microsofts silverlight for the instant playback on Windows machines for quite a while. The natural progression was to make it available for Apple desktops next, so they ported silverlight over to Mac. From there the result seems obvious to me. It is a business after all.
