The Illusionist's Dream is a shape-shifting Time-Waster
The Illusionist's Dream is a simple platformer; you play as a magician who needs to get through each level by transforming into any number of animals that you encounter along the way.
Each animal can do different things; the butterfly can obviously fly, but if it encounters a frog, the frog eats it, and you have to start over again. There's also a fox that runs fast and leaps far, but it eats any rabbits that cross its path. That means that, if you may need to be a rabbit later on, you need to take that into account (and transform "out" of your fox in due time, by hitting S).
The ambience and atmosphere are "for grownups." The soundtrack is mainly composed of a moody piano. The levels are quite easy, and to be honest, I'm not sure I like that. It certainly makes the game more casual; you can probably finish it quite quickly. All in all, it's a nice, calm game.

How can a game so charming have such horrible jumping controls?

Great game. Terrible jumping controls. And a very unsatisfying ending :p

Controls are a pain.
The frog hops as it moves, making jumps hard to time. The rabbit hops as well, also making jumps hard. And the monkey will simply not grab anything if you touch anything as it hits the vine.
