Mac OS X slips in OS market share for fourth straight month
Earlier today, Lee Mathews told you how Windows 7 had passed Vista in OS market share, and how Windows XP still seems to have a little gas left in its tank. But what of Mac OS X? Things are looking okay, but not great, for Apple's desktop operating system, which lost ground for the 4th straight month, according to the July report from Net Applications (as reported by ComputerWorld).Apple's 2/10ths of a percentage point drop was its largest drop in over a year and a half. OS X peaked at 5.3% in October, but then Microsoft introduced Windows 7, and was all downhill from there. Apple's back down to 5%. Win7's growth seems to be slowing, but will Apple be able to get those points back? Is Mac software suffering now that iPhones and iPads make up over half of Apple's business? Certainly, Apple's not hurting at all right now, thanks to record Mac sales in the second quarter of this year, but should they be worried that WIndows 7 PCs are selling even faster?

Can we get oblivion added to comments like engadget? It would be appropriate here.

Regarding the comment:
please don't pretend to be unbiased and then proceed to use terms like "Winblows" and "Microshaft" as it makes you come off as a complete jackass.
Agreed. I was out of line. I still have heard very few people enjoy their windows experience. Glad that you do. Hopefully Win7 is awesome. I doubt I'll buy it but I will check it out when feasible.
As far as the other responder... Thought I was more arrogant than ignorant but I guess both terms fit. The last word however smelled kinda bad.
Take it easy

I used to be a Windows user a while back, and though I still use it regularly at work, I have since switched to OS X for personal use. In order to hopefully stave off a flamewar, I'll start off by saying that I don't really have anything against either OS. Both have flaws and both have their merits. My personal preference is OS X now, but I don't expect anyone else to make that choice just because I did.
With respect to Ubuntu: I've fiddled with various versions over the years, but I can never stick with it for more than a few days or as a hobby project on a spare computer. I always end up getting stuck finding actual, usable replacements for some of my regularly used applications, such as Photoshop (and no, GIMP and others have not swayed me on Linux anymore than they have on other platforms). I also find that it often takes too much time for me to figure out how or why any particular component or service isn't working, and in spite of hearing great things about the Ubuntu community, it still caters to people who are at least fairly proficient, rather than novices.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that from my experience, Ubuntu is still not as accessible as it could be. I don't consider myself to be a mainstream computer user, but neither am I an IT specialist. I'm just a fairly geeky person who doesn't have the time to spare figuring out basic tasks in their OS, and just wants to get things done in a reasonable fashion and in a comfortable OS environment. OS X does this for me.

I feel somewhat responsible. I have a macbook pro (my work provides it) and yet I boot into Ubuntu 99% of the time. I just dont like OSX.
