JailbreakMe: iPhone 4 jailbreaking made easy by iPhone Dev Team
Right on the heels of the news that iPhone jailbreaking is now legal, the infamous iPhone Dev Team has released an easy-peasy jailbreak for the iPhone 4. It's called JailbreakMe, and it works right from your iPhone's browser. The landing page for JailbreakMe reminds you that iPhone jailbreaking is now legal, and also fully reversible by plugging in your device and hitting Restore in iTunes. If you're going to experiment with jailbreaking, though, definitely back up your device. JailbreakMe is brand new and very popular, so the servers have been hanging and causing problems for some users, according to Engadget. Don't worry, there are also plenty of satisfied customers out there. Even Engadget's bricked phone was eventually restored and working fine.

Worked fine for me on my 64gb Touch. A couple of the add-ons like 6 icon dock don't work, but I can live with 5 for now. Volume button extender froze it everytime, so wait for that. Other than that, all the usual JB stuff worked fine.

Is it safe for someone like me who has never jailbroken a ipod touch before to use??

It should be safe. Just MAKE SURE TO BACKUP. This is the key, because that is how you are going to in-jailbreak it, if you decide it's not for you (or you need to send it to Apple). I jailbroke my fairly new iPod Touch 3rd gen 32gb using this method. Believe it or not, it is worth it. You can install Backgrounder and run almost any app in the background, even if the app doesn't support iOS 4 multitasking. Also, don't freak out if your screen goes black and freezes for a minute. It should boot fine in a minute. Good luck.

Ok thank you very much. I'm going to back it up and try it.

I just did a jailbreak on my iPhone 4 running 4.01. Seamless break with no issues. Whacked SBSettings, Open SSH and BossPref straight on.
Will be doing some research on the forums tonight about the best JB apps.
Also need to remember how to change the root password, dont wanna get rickrolled!! ;o)

You will most likely need to add another repository to Cydia and install the latest beta of Mobile Terminal. I think it's the only one that works on iOS 4.
