Images of IE9's interface leak, including Chrome-like 'start' tab and download manager

I'm not quite sure what to make of the screenshots, nor the Google translation. The Developer Previews (Internet Explorer Test Drive) are not meant to have a user interface -- they're just there to show off the Trident rendering engine. That means we're probably looking at the beta version of IE9 in these screenshots. Does that mean the private beta has begun -- or are these simply fakes?
As you can see above, IE9 seems to gained a proper download manager. After the break there's a couple more images -- one of the very Chromeish 'new tab page', and one that hints at restartless add-on management.
Looking at the SunSpider performance graph, I'm not sure if these images are real -- or whether this beta build sports the latest version of the Trident rendering engine. When I tested IE's JavaScript performance last month, it was about the same speed as Firefox 3.6 -- not some 10 times slower than Chrome.

Very Chromeish, eh?

'Stay Fast'? Are these really from a beta build...?

IE still looks like shit. Even Firefox has had a facelift, what's the deal, Microsoft?

That's clearly IE8 with a few add-on pieces - the Popular Sites tab and the download manager. The main UI is entirely IE8. The SunSpider benchmark results are very similar to IE8's.
I wouldn't be surprised if MS are testing changes to the UI internally using mods to IE8, and the rendering engine separately with the Platform Preview.
Looks like Neowin have pulled their article.

Hah! Softpedia pulled theirs too, I think.
If the numbers really are similar to IE8 (I can't test from here), then that would definitely lean it towards 'fake' -- or as you say, just using IE8 mods to test out possible IE9 interfaces!

Obvious fake, or I'm suing someone for misinformation!

I for one really like the idea of a Stay Fast button. It's like the 'Turbo' button on my old 486. My friends said that really it was just a button that turned on a little LED, but when I had it pressed, maaaan, that little guy could could FLY!

Haha I actually just decided to Google the turbo button because I always wondered what it was for...
Apparently it was because old software on new faster computers would run extremely fast, so a user could use the turbo button to trick the software or computer into thinking it is slower, thus causing the old software to run at a normal pace.
I actually remember this happening one time. I got a new computer, and tried out this old game. Things would be moving across the screen at lightning pace!

Blast from the past...!
Yeah, Turbo was 'normal' -- i.e. the clock multiplier set to what it should be. If you disabled it, the multiplier would be set to a lower speed.
I think it was mostly for the DX2-66 and DX4-100 chips.

@Mark: There was no "tricking" going on, turning "Turbo" off actually lowered the CPU clock. Early implementations lowered the clock back to the 8086's "standard" 4.77 MHz, but on later systems they simply halved or quartered the CPU clock.

I remember this button being on my grandpa's first computer. When I pressed the button, a little panel on the front of the tower reported the processor doubling from 33 MHz to a "screamin-fast" 66 MHz. I always thought it was just the early-90s way to overclock. Windows 3.11 was so bomb.... for its time (I can't believe I just said that).

All I ask is for MS is to pleeease allow tabs to be dragged out of a IE windows and make it simpler to start a new window from the taskbar as in Chrome Taskbar Icon>Right Click>New window... This allows us to quickly snap windows to the sides to compare sites and such.

It's a private beta.
