Hamster batch converts your video files for free

Like many of the apps in this category, Hamster Free Video Converter utilizes the open source FFmpeg to handle video conversion. Unlike a lot of others, it's got a simple, easy-to-use interface which even the most casual users should be able to manage.
Just follow the tabs! Step 1: choose a video or multiple videos (Hamster does batch conversions, too!). Step 2: select your desired format (AVI, MPEG, WMV, FLV, MP3, or 3GP) or your mobile device. Built-in options include the iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, as well as Blackberry, HTC, Archos, and Sony devices (among others). Step 3: convert your videos!
Don't like the default yellow theme? No problem. Simply open the settings menu, choose theme, and use the slider to select a tone that's more to your liking.
Hamster is an excellent free option if you're looking for a way to create mobile-friendly versions of your favorite videos. There's virtually no learning curve, so it's the perfect app to recommend to your friends who always seem to have shortcuts to crippled trial versions of crappy video converters on their desktops.

I just use Miro Video Converter. It does more or less the same kind of thing although it's more suited to converting to various mobile formats or web formats.

I just use Handbrake.

was going to comment anyway: does this do anything I can't do with Handbrake? It might be a *little* more "grandma-friendly", but Handbrake has made great strides in set-and-forget profiles...

Does this convert DRM video files from the iTunes Store? Is there any application that will do that?

Simple interface, but I think I'll stick with Super

Great. Another crapware program that rips off ffmpeg and violates the GPL. Why do all these fly-by-night "developers" insist on violating the license of the same open source project and dressing it up in similar gaudy GUIs? If you're going to be a creep, at least be original.
BTW, S.U.P.E.R triggers Windows DEP and breaks existing Avisynth installations, MediaCoder violates the licenses of both Nero (AAC encoder) and several GPU-accelerated video encoders, etc. As usual, the only way to get what you expect is to use software coded by people that give a damn, make source code available where required, and consistently post change logs and respond to feature requests.

How does it violate the GPL?

Just what I needed! I've tried all the free encoders and converters out there, including but not limited to Handbrake, SUPER, MediaCoder, Miro and VidCoder, but I had yet to come across a program which supports HTC devices (I use an HTC Touch HD) without the requirement to mess around with frame rate, bit rate and resolution settings, until this one. I tried it last night and it worked like a wonder! The videos I converted with the other tools (using default settings) as well as a tool dedicated to converting videos for HTC Touch, were very choppy when played on the device. This one worked just perfectly. Thanks DownloadSquad!

really? This is brutal. AVI as a container? No Multiple audio tracks? Did someone find this in the backseat of a Delorian?
