Windows 7 Service Pack 1 public beta now available
We already told you that Windows 7 Service Pack 1 had hit closed beta, but now Microsoft has made it available to everyone. Announced on Monday at Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference, SP1 reflects Microsoft's increased focus on cloud computing. As we've mentioned before, SP1 includes RemoteFX, which allows for host-based rendering of 3D graphics. That means when you remotely connect to another computer, you get the same multimedia experience (including Silverlight video, Aero effects, and 3D applications) as you would on your local desktop.
The bulk of SP1 is comprised of up-to-date hotfixes, and will probably include support for USB 3.0 and improvements to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection quality. You can download the Service Pack (as well as Windows Server 2008 R2) from Microsoft's Tech Evaluation Center.

Why would anyone download the beta of a service pack? Just wait a couple weeks to get the finalized thing.

Months.

It would depend on the Service Pack. XP SP2 or Vista SP1 are things you want ASAP, but if the main selling point of 7 SP1 is host-based rendering I'll wait for the final build

Windows 7 SP1 does not contain RemoteFX. That is only for Windows Server.

Actually there is a client side for RemoteFX, so yes. It does come with Windows 7 SP1

@kellic.tmobile: Actually you are just another person spreading misinformation. If you took the time to read the notable changes documentation, you would realize that RemoteFX is listed only as a new technology for Windows 2008 Server because it is only a server-side technology. I'll admit that the document does say you need an updated version of the RDP client to connect, but it does not call this RemoteFX, you know, because it isn't. Claiming, as this article did, that RemoteFX is available for Windows 7 means it is added to the built in Remote Desktop server that is in Windows 7, but this is simply not the case.

After the paragraph lauding the Dynamic Memory and RemoteFX specifically in the server SP1, the document goes on to say that,
"Microsoft recommends that organizations do not need to wait for SP1 to begin receiving the value of Windows 7 today as we don’t anticipate the SP1 for Windows 7 to be substantial."
