YouTube's new Leanback: one-click online video for the lazy TV crowd

Open up Leanback, and it starts playing immediately, with no user input. As the official YouTube blog describes it: " Videos tailored to your interests play as soon as you visit the site and they play in full screen and high definition, continuously. There's no need to click, search, or browse, unless you want to, of course. Watching YouTube becomes as easy as watching TV. "
Leanback gets content based on what you've watched and subscribed to, and what your Facebook friends have liked (if your YouTube account is connected to your Facebook account). You can also just watch the most popular videos on YouTube, if that's your thing. There's no need to use the mouse, either: it's the left and right buttons to skip, up to search, and down to browse. Basically, you've got the laziest, simplest viewing experience since TV itself. Neat!

Talk about going full-circle! Personally, I think this is reminiscient of two things the almighty web has provided for us. First, web users who are 30 years of age and older love the "products of nostalgia" the web provides. Leanback is just like living in the "old days" of cable tv and antenna. Just like all the emulators of old console systems became a hit with this generation, I feel Leanback will have the same effect. Second, Leanback still provides a convenience that traditional tv cannot. Now, users don't have to be locked in the living room to channel surf. They are free do it from the bathroom, office, car, park, or anywhere else they take their web-enabled mobile device. And now, they don't even have to think about what they want to watch anymore! Everyone in favor of mindless enternainment, say aye!
