Using Google Chrome's bookmark menu? Get ready to kiss it goodbye.

But now that you know about it, don't get too excited. The bookmark menu option has been nixed in a recent Chromium source code update and could very well disappear in the next round of updates to Chrome's official channels. I've got to think that more Chrome users would've utilized the menu if there had ever been, say, an option under the wrench menu or in the options tabs.
The good news is it's working for now on the beta and stable builds, so enable away and enjoy it while you can -- here's how to do it!

They dont have a f*ing clue about usability, only idiot can remove such thing for top-notch browser..
In fact, when you take a look at entire Chrome UI design, it comes to mind that idiots made actually..
† God bless Mozilla †

dude, theres no point to it tho when you can easily use folders in the link bar.. I myself have the bookmark folder up but I never goto it.. I always put my links in folders. And the best thing Ive found w/ Chromes link bar is the ability to remove the name from the icon. All my sites I visit daily are just icons. :P

This extension seems to be a decent facsimile: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/ajgmnekpakhkbnhehnpkminifbpmkghg?hl=en

Well, they just took away the one enabled hack that might have convinced me to switch from Firefox.
Between this and the whole - hey, you can't clear specific things on browser exit / you have to wipe your history manually - thing, I'll just stick with the Mozilla guys.

Noooooo.... This faster and more stable than any bookmark extension out there... bring it back!

To comment on this change goto http://codereview.chromium.org/2853024. So, hopefully we can get this feature back.

Nooooooo!

So...how are people supposed to manage sites they want to bookmark?
David LevineJul 2nd 2010 2:31PM
They should really make a bookmark menu button an option to turn on and off, just like the home button. What other browser doesn't have a bookmarks menu? Chrome is the only one I know of.
Mainer82Jul 2nd 2010 3:33PM
I don't understand why they essentially killed bookmarks in the first place by disabling it by default. Now Mozilla 4 is essentially doing the same thing. I will move back to IE or Opera if Firefox does this.
I have over 1800 bookmarks.

Give Ctrl+B a shot.
Mainer82Jul 3rd 2010 9:08PM
Hi, I am aware of that shortcut however I like having the drop down menu over the side bar.
RahabibJul 2nd 2010 4:23PM
The drop down was useless anyway as you have to use the bookmark manager to re-order and easily find bookmarks. What chrome really needs is a side panel like every other damn browser has!
this way you dont have to click the star, then the edit button, then find your bookmark folder to save a bookmark. Its so much easier to just drag the favicon to the folder you want directly. Also I can see my bookmarks while I surf (if I want).
So either by extention or built in, its one major reason I still use Firefox (and xmarks on firefox lets me sync to my own server).

Google is taking the minimalism thing a bit too far.
tc4001Jul 2nd 2010 10:11PM
Opera will let me put a bookmarks drowdown menu, a bookmarks bar or a sidebar pretty much any damn place I want to put one. Google's letting us down, boo.
laeroJul 3rd 2010 2:06AM
Started using Opera again after the release of 10.60, starting to feel more and more like a good decision since I agree with Goran: menu > bar
junkeizzoJul 3rd 2010 2:30AM
I think i am missing something here. Why would they work so hard on improving the bookmark manager and adding a nice built in sync feature just to remove it all. I think maybe something just got misinterpreted.
junkeizzoJul 3rd 2010 2:49AM
Ok I understand now. They are not removing the bookmark feature just that button. The option to enable the bookmark bar has always been there and still is there.
This is how you enable it:

Heres what it looks like:

Looks like of like firefox bookmark bar but it also has a bookmark menu all the way to the right.

You mean hitting Ctrl+b?
