Extension sync comes to Google Chrome

It's not enabled by default, so you won't see it in your sync options menu unless you activate the feature via a command line switch. --enable-sync-extensions --sync-url=https://clients4.google.com/chrome-sync/dev turns it on (again, see our tutorial on using command line switches if you're not sure how to do this).
Today's dev channel release also brings the usual assortment of bug fixes and tweaks, but extension sync is by far the biggest news. Hit up about Chrome in your wrench menu to auto-update, or head over to the download page for Google Chrome's dev channel builds to take the expanded sync feature for a test drive.
Thanks for the heads-up, Logan!

How about password sync? I don't want to keep using LastPass, I hate that service.

Until they add an option for a master password when you launch (like Flock 3), I don't think you'll see password sync go live.

I hope they'll introduce profiles with a master password, hopefully compatible with both the Windows User Management and Security and the UNIX multi-userland system.

I LastPass. I like the idea that even if my machines are stolen that the passwords aren't on the system. I've gone through and eliminated all passwords from Chrome and Firefox on all the machines I have access to.
And the free 2-factor security is great. If I'm traveling, I set my MacBook to "not trusted". So now you have to get my master password and the printout in my wallet and know what to do with them.
I used to be a two password person - one for high security sites, one for everything else. Now I'm a 250-password person.
Don't work for them or anything like that. Just really appreciate the service.

how do command line switches work on macs? is some variation supported?
Lee MathewsJun 17th 2010 3:17PM
The short answers I've gotten from friends with macs: do it from terminal

Looks good but I, like others, am still waiting for password sync. I'm still using the combination of Firefox + XMarks for pretty much everything and honestly, I haven't yet seen a compelling reason to switch. Chrome is a good browser but so is Firefox and I've never found browser speed to be an issue. Even on my somewhat underpowered Netbook, Firefox does what I need it to and I've never had to wait. I don't know, maybe I'm missing something but I don't see anything that makes me want to switch from FF to Chrome...yet anyway.
