DownThemAll! 2.0 beta ready for testing
DownThemAll! is one of my must-have Firefox add-ons and it has been for ages. It's a fantastic upgrade to the built-in download manager, and it's about to get even better -- with the arrival of version 2.0!
A beta version has been made available to the public and a wide range of new features have been added. DTA 2 supports global, per server, and per download speed limits. Audio and video downloading has been improved with HTML5 <video> and <audio> integration, media sniffing, and the ability to tag-team with the Video DownloadHelper add-on.
Firefox 3.6's private browsing mode is also fully supported and DTA's context menu entries have been re-tooled. The official announcement also mentions simplified code and numerous performance-related changes, and they're easy to notice: DTA 2 feels very snappy compared to its predecessor.
As the official post states, the DTA 2 beta is mostly feature complete but it still has a few bugs that need squashing. If you'd like to test it out, head over to the announcement page with Firefox and install the DownThemAll! 2 beta!
Now if only Google would open up Chrome sufficiently to allow DTA to make the jump -- I'd love to be able to replace the built-in download manager with it.

My biggest problems with chrome:
1. You can't disable the download bar at the bottom to keep it from popping up.
2. There will never be noscript or a DownThemAll for it.
3. No bookmark sidebar yet.
I wouldn't mind ditching Firefox but I cannot live without DTA and I certainly don't care for the little bar for downloads that pops up at the bottom without any option to perma-hide it.
I keep seeing them release updates to chrome but they're either ignoring people who are asking for #1 and #3 or for some reason those have a much lower priority than making the address pretty by removing "http://". There are threads on their suggestion board with well over 200 posts in each, asking for those simply additional features.

i like Chrome but Firefox definitely has better download and extension managers. i will probably go back to Firefox once 4.0 drops. right now it just looks too clunky compared to Chrome. Firefox needs more Aero glass.
