Google Gaming coming to a browser window or tablet screen near you?

TechCrunch, the despotic head honchos of hyperbole, might actually be on to something with its current Google speculation: is Google getting back into the gaming business?

Gaming has always been an ominously empty segment of Google's catalogue of Web services -- in fact, they have their finger in every other major pie. I can only assume that their aborted attempt back in 2008 scared Google off temporarily -- or perhaps it has just been biding its time. Still, judging by a new job posting and a couple of acquisitions (including LabPixies), Google has obviously decided that the time to strike is now. The iron is positively molten.

Don't get your hopes up for 3D desktop or console games though! It's more likely that Google wants to offer games on its upcoming tablet device, bundled with its home-brew Chrome OS. Google could also be bringing 'gamey' aspects to its existing services -- achievements for YouTube or puzzles on Picasa.

To be honest, Google has absolutely no background in gaming -- all we can do is guess at what the first Google Gaming product will be! What do you think the first Google Game will be?
