My OS runs Steam, can your OS do that?
Seriously, it's all in the software. So what if developers decides to use the Linux kernel as the base? It's not like they can't do the same using a copy of Windows.

Ubuntu and other Linux distributions have been running Steam with Wine for years. Learn to google bro.

@lifeisenergyandenergyislife: Yeah, like if I didn't already know that >_< Even Macs has been running Steam through CrossOver for years. The point was that Steam isn't officially supported on Linux but they runs it anyway, just not native, so everything is basically in the software used.
It's not like an operating system limits the software possible to run anymore since it's all the same hardware. What you just needs is a "translator" between the different APIs.
