Tweetymail lets you tweet at work without getting caught
I've been pretty hard on Twitter-via-email services like Tweetymail in the past. Why filter a cool new technology through a declining old one? Well, I missed something really obvious, something that I don't have to think about as a writer: some people aren't allowed to use twitter at work. Just about everyone is allowed to use email, though!
That's why TweetyMail is actually cool. it's a way to sneak in a little stealth Twitter action when you're supposed to be filling out your TPS reports. Of course, you could also use it as your main Twitter application -- it's even mobile-phone optimized -- but I'm not sure why you would. Other than sending and receiving tweets via email, Tweetymail's features include auto-shortening URLs and photo sharing. Worth a look, if you're into that whole "email" thing.

"Declining old one" ?
After Twitter, Facebook, and other short messaging like them are long gone, email will still be here.

Jay, thanks for the coverage! In many ways, Twitter provides the infrastructure for the real-time internet. Desktop clients, mobile apps, SMS, and the Twitter website are just communication tools that plug-in to this infrastructure. However, Twitter still lacks robust integration with one of the most predominant ways we communicate online - email. This is where tweetymail comes in.
The idea is that tweetymail is complimentary to how you already use Twitter. Whether your worksplace blocks Twitter or you simply don't have the patience to wait for an app to load on your smartphone, tweetymail finally makes email a fast, viable, and effective way to engage on Twitter.
Next time you're out somewhere with your iPhone/BlackBerry, try using tweetymail instead of a slow/heavy native app to receive mentions, send a tweet, share a picture, follow someone, etc. I think you'll be surprised how much more convenient and easy Twitter can be.
