IE9 developer preview downloaded more than 1 million times

...And users are clearly curious about what Microsoft is doing. According to a post at Softpedia, the Internet Explorer 9 developer preview has already been downloaded more than a million times. Considering how little of the browser you're actually able to see (and use) at this point and that fact that the preview has only been available since mid-March, that's an impressive total.
The milestone was actually achieved prior to the arrival of Preview 2 this week, so that number will likely climb sharply in the coming weeks.
Just wait until the user interface gets bolted on...

Its actually a really fast browser. i was really surprised at the speed. I got a Q6600 and I want the most used application in my computer (the browser) to make full use of it, glad it does. I cannot discern a difference between the Chrome and IE9 in my day to day browsing.
Also, one important thing to note when it comes to Acid3 numbers is that they are going down the list of compatibility from the most used to least used so the number while lower than other browsers is better than it sounds.

And for the Html5test? HTML5 is the future of the web after all. Combine that with the horrid security protocol related to IE and it's not worth using.

HTML5 is not a standard atm. W3C is the only standards body which Microsoft cares about and frankly, we as consumers also need to pick one. If and when HTML5 spec becomes official I dont doubt Microsoft will apply that now that they are part of the body.

You are right. Let me know when they match the standards. They haven't as of yet.

Again, there is no 'standard' yet for HTML5 so there is nothing to adhere to.

I was referring to HTML4. Which even the IE Developers on their blog admitted they don't match fully. Especially in CSS. Now we have HTML5 which is being widely adopted across the web. Or are you willing to say the developers are liers too?

Yes, you are right when it comes to HTML4 and CSS. However, IE is trying to conform to known tests and is making progress on them. Its reached ok numbers 68/100 last time I checked but neither does Chrome or FF(admittedly not as bad). They have realized their mistake. How about, you just evaluate the product (IE 9) and decide which you like better. Although, I thought that speed was everything I wanted in a browser, upon using Chrome, I decided to come back to FF because of the better AD-Block plugin in FireFox. Speed is not everything and neither are 'standards' as its all to an individuals tastes and wants.

Really? Odd, since both Chrome and Firefox reached 100/100. As did Safari, Konqueror, and others.
I've been using browsers since the first Netscape, OS/2 Webexplorer, and Mosaics came out. I was one of the beta testers for Internet Explorer 2 and then 3. Internet Explorer has its place. However, that does not negate the duty and obligation of Microsoft to ensure that it complies with ALL web standards so that web applications can advance and the operating system itself becomes a lesser factor.
The future is quickly become web applications. There will still be normal client applications but for the casual user they won't be needed. I even see in many enterprises the move to full browser based apps.
So please. Don't be disingenuous.
