Hacked iPad 3G sends texts, runs on T-Mobile
Our friends over at Engadget are reporting on a wicked hack for the just-released iPad 3G that allows you to send SMS messages and use the device on US carrier T-Mobile. iPhone fans who are dissatisfied with AT&T's performance have been using jailbroken phones to get around the AT&T/Apple exclusive carrier contact and use T-Mobile for some time. It's good news, then, that there's a trick for the iPad as well. The videos after the jump will show you how to pull off these hacks, but the basic gist is that you have to trim down a T-Mobile SIM card to fit your iPad's micro-SIM slot. The SMS trick depends on inserting the trimmed-down T-Mobile SIM, because AT&T appears to be blocking SMS messages at the carrier level.

I, for one, am getting pretty sick of Apple.
One: I would like to get a smart phone. I own an iPod Touch, so I'd like to get an iPhone in order to use my apps. However I HATE that you have to send in your device to get a battery changed. I HATE locked-in carriers and the nanny-attitude towards the app-store. I don't want to have to jailbreak/unlock my device just to get the service and features that should be available normally!
So instead I think I'll get a phone that runs Android.
Two: I would like to get an e-reader. I'm tempted by the iPad, but for the same reasons as above, I think I'll get a Kindle or a Nook.

I know this is all old-hat, but I needed to vent. Sorry y'all.
