Ubuntu 10.04 hit by major bug on release day
As it turns out, after the final release ISOs were already created (or "spun" in Ubuntu geek-speak), a critical bug came up; and no, I don't mean something like "OMG, we put the window buttons on the wrong side!". I mean something like "once you install Ubuntu, you will not be able to boot your other operating system." Oops. It doesn't kill the other OS, and it's fixable when it happens (it's a problem with the GRUB2 bootloader configuration), but it's certainly not something you want to have happen to people just trying out your OS (or even upgrading from previous versions).
Granted -- it doesn't happen with each and every installation, but it can happen. The Ubuntu team considered a quick-fix, but eventually went for the more responsible (and safer, in terms of PR) option of re-spinning the ISOs. However, re-spinning all ISOs would push the release into May, which would be a PR flop in itself. So they're just re-spinning some of the most popular ones, like the x86 and x64 desktop releases, as well as the Netbook remix. Exciting stuff!

I'm running it in VMware as well and I've noticed it doesn't see my FREAKING keyboard.
Anyone else?

What is this 'Windows' thing? Oh yes, it's that legacy OS from the late 20th century. Sad, so very sad... ;-)
I did an upgrade last night and my machine is happily humming along with 10.04 (they may have pulled the ISOs but as far as I can tell the 'Upgrade' is still working fine).

I installed Lucid over my Karmic partition a few hours after it was released. I have a Windows 7 partition on the same computer. I had no problems accessing Windows 7 from GRUB2. I have Linux as my first, boot partition, and Windows afterwards. Perhaps that has something to do with it?

does this affect an online upgrade for i386?

@Spanky: Just reinstall it on that same virtual machine. It's due to the VMware Ubuntu install automation. Alternately you could also set it to an 'other linux 2.6 kernel' if your making a new VM.

Adding a line to a text file is a bug? Don't mind it too much. Upgrading the present version right now. will install a new one soon.

Hey: My version of Ubuntu 10.04 is working very well and happily co-existing. I'll still take a look at the newer version when it's available.

Spanky: You can get around the invisible keyboard issue by choosing Universal Access Options from the login screen and selecting the on-screen keyboard. Restart and then use it to log in. After you log in your keyboard will be recognized.
Go to Administration > Login Screen and choose to auto-login yourself and bypass the login screen.
I don't have a perm fix yet but I'll let you know when I do.

@Spanky - you can also choose the on-screen keyboard option in the Universal Access Preference (Vitruvian Man-esque icon in lower right corner), reboot the VM and it will popup when it comes back on. The on-screen keyboard will then go away once ubuntu is fully loaded and your regular keyboard will work.

@Spanky - to keep from having to use the on-screen keyboard each time run the following once logged in via terminal console:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup

Hmmm...
Upgraded Mythbuntu from 9.10 to 10.04 on a single OS box, no problems whatsoever.
Upgraded Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 on a single OS notebook, no problems whatsoever.
Upgraded Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 on a dual boot (Win7) desktop, no problems whatsoever...

I installed 10.04 from an .iso I got on release day and I'm not having any problems with it. It's nice although I don't like that the buttons are on the opposite side of the window. I'll get used to it though.

wy 4 u muve buttons to left side of skrene??? Unnecessarily cause me angst.
1. Unrequested hibernation when browsing???
2. Unrequested shutdown when watching Matroska video's..... why only the Matroska videos and not the .avi's?
3. Like "simple scan," manager. Preferences are where they belong....and it works!
4. For some reason the links to my media server all stopped working. And network discovery is extremely slooowwww....so remaking the links results in lots of retries to finally connect......and "no;" (tear...sniff).
