Google gets a new image search on Android and iPhone
If you used Google to search for images on an iPhone or Android before this week, you know the experience was a bit lacking. Fortunately, Google has revamped its mobile image search, doing away with that one-image-at-a-time, no-pinch-to-zoom nonsense. The new image results page uses square thumbnails to maximize the number of images on screen. It's about time, Google! The new viewer mode for individual images is a huge improvement, too. The images are shown at as large a size as possible -- instead of just a slightly bigger thumbnail, as in the old version -- and the navigation buttons are big and easy to use. Return to thumbnails and view full size buttons fade in when you touch the screen. All in all, it's a huge improvement over the old image search experience.
If my description isn't cutting it for you, watch Google's brief demo video after the jump.

Unfortunately I'm still on my 'kicked to the curb' Sprint Hero with v1.5 Cupcake. I've got a growing list of cool new features and apps which I'm just not able to use. New Google Maps Turn-by-Turn, Gesture search, Google Earth, new beta Firebox and the list goes on. HTC has again pushed the 2.1 upgrade on my phone out to June. Just in time to be passed up on the v2.2 update. Will the same happen with the Incredible?

Word is, 2.1 will be out for the Hero any day now. However I couldn't take it any more, and a few weeks ago installed a custom rom. To my surprise it was very painless, and waiting for the phone to boot, was the longest step in the whole process.
