Facebook gets an "I Don't Care" button, via a Google Chrome extension
Now that Facebook's "like" button is poised to take over the whole web, the campaign for a "dislike" button is more relevant than ever. But what about a third option, a "meh" option, an "I Don't Care" option? If you're a Google Chrome user, you can add "I Don't Care" to Facebook using the FBOSF extension.
OSF is an abbreviation of the French "on s'en fout," meaning "we don't care." If you install this extension, you'll be able to "meh" most things you can "like" now, and anyone else with the extension installed will see. Unfortunately, it's ad-supported, which can be a drag on the already ad-rich Facebook.
Also, if you really don't care about something, why take any action at all?
Because passive-aggression is a delight, obviously, but why else...?

Fry: "Now here's a party I can get excited about. Sign me up!"
Apathy Party Guy: "Sorry, not with that attitude."
Fry: "Ok, then screw it."
Apathy Party Guy: "Welcome aboard, brother!"
Fry: "Alright!"
Apathy Party Guy: "You're out."

Only the 2% of the Internet users (who use Chrome) are able to see that button. And probably only 0.1% of the Chrome users install this extension.
Imagine someone writes: "a member of my family died" and some user is pressing the "I give a damn" button. Very insulting.
And regarding the privacy... all the "i give a damn" clicks are logged on some foreign server (French -> EU?) ... wonderful.

Well don't use facebook if you don't want to be logged.
FYI french laws about personnal data logging are much more restrictive than the one in the US of A.

Hmm. I would find actually very useful someone saying 'I dont give a damn' on a family decease post... That would make it very easy to spot idiots who dont deserve to be on my friends list and kick their asses out...

If you're sick of FB ads, then add the Stylish plugin to firefox, Fool!
I'm glad they're adding the don't care button.
But why not just get off of FB entirely?
I've gotten so much writing done since I committed FB suicide!

I like the idea of renaming it to a "meh" button (or maybe for the Firefox version).
Also, those "collectors" are called "friend whores".

By not clicking the "like" button you are essentially saying that you don't care.

People dont get that. Just like people sometimes dress up like clowns and walk the street thinking they look awesome just because no one said 'you look like a clown'. Some, ok, MOST Facebook users post crap after crap after crap and think they are being awesome... I need a dislike button, cause currently my only option for these kind of people is to Hide them; and that leads to losing the 0.01% of the posts I would had actually cared for.

How about a "DILLIGAF" button for us old-timers?
