Will iPhone OS 4.0 include direct printing from iPhones and iPads?
The help pages for Apple's iPad version of the iWork apps suite are leading some people to conclude that, when iPhone OS 4.0 is unveiled at 10am PDT today, it will include the ability to print documents wirelessly. See, the section on printing in Apple's support documents doesn't say "printing is not supported." It says that "printing directly from iPad is not currently available." A lot could rest on that one little word: "currently." Later today, we may find out whether printing is coming, and how it will work. Some of the biggest questions that come to mind include: Will the iPhone be supported, or just the iPad? Which printers will be supported? The several gigs of printer drivers that come on a Mac surely won't be part of an iPhone update, right?
These questions may all be answered today!

It wouldn't really surprise me, but we'll see. Here's hoping if indeed it is released, it's not a private framework and will available to anyone (maybe with permissions).

I see there being a potential for it working only on Wi-Fi networks, printing by connecting to an iTunes supporting computer or computer with Bonjour installed then printing from there. Of course something like that is pretty hackjob yet I find it hard to believe they would write all the drivers for it either. I guess we will see today.

Stevie J and his wonder powers broke us of two-button mice and floppy disks, he'll break us of our dependence on printing, so 'no.'
