Make Firefox look like Windows Phone 7 with Metro UI add-on

If you've been living under a rock -- or if you insist on using Apple products -- you might not have seen or heard of Microsoft's new Metro UI. There are tantalizing hints of it in Windows 7 and Zune, but only with Windows Phone 7 can you see what Microsoft has in store with its new Metro UI. And now you can make your Firefox look a bit like a next-generation operating system... kinda.

Metro 1.0 for Firefox certainly looks good. Minimal, straight-line, square. Everything is a relaxed grey, with dropshadows everywhere -- and of course, a dash of colour! Don't worry if pink's not your favourite -- if you grab Stylish, there are Red and Blue Usertyles of Metro 1.0 available. Overall it's a pleasing theme, though there's not quite enough contrast for me -- the tabs bleed into the menu bars above them.

It sounds like Microsoft wants to work its Metro UI into all of its future releases. The screenshots of IE9 with Metro UI were apparently fake -- but it stands to reason that IE9 will use the new UI. I wonder if browsers like Firefox and Chrome will be able to tap basic Windows functionality to provide a similar user experience, or whether we'll have to rely on add-ons...
