There is a keyboard-based alternative which doesn't require additional installation of anything so it can be used on Firefox in any platform and that's by using the keyword field in Firefox's bookmarks manager. Just type whatever keyword you want associated to the Read Later bookmarklet already installed in the Bookmarks Toolbar. Once you've done this you type Control-L/Command-L which puts you in the URL location field then type the keyword. It'll trigger the Read Later script.

I use the Keyword field for a bunch of stuff like posting to delicious in addition to just abbreviations for URLs.
